Patch tests, also known as epicutaneous tests, are the gold standard method for diagnosing allergic contact dermatitis. They consist of applying patches with different substances to the skin, usually on the back, to evaluate whether an allergic reaction is present.

¿En qué consiste?

This procedure includes three office visits:

  1. First visit: The dermatologist expert in contact dermatitis takes the patient’s clinical history to evaluate the possible causes of allergic dermatitis and performs the placement of the diagnostic test by marking the areas. Until the next visit it is important not to wet or manipulate the area.
  2. Second visit (3-4 days later): Dermatologist with expertise in contact dermatitis performs the first review and reading to diagnose early allergic reactions.
  3. Third visit (3-4 days later): The dermatologist expert in contact dermatitis performs the final inspection to identify late allergic reactions and makes a detailed report with the patient’s diagnosis and personalized guidelines and recommendations.
